Folk and Contemporary Dance Workshops

In these workshops, I invite dancers to explore the traditional Georgian folk dance technique – an ancient movement language taught in schools across the Caucasus, based on choreographic motifs that preserved over generations through repetition and careful maintenance, similar to classical ballet training.
Working with this technique enhances coordination, strengthens the body, develops speed and movement precision, and allows dancers to engage with complex rhythms. I teach the technique in a traditional way, as I learned it and continue to study with a Georgian teacher in Tbilisi. Alongside the folk classes, we will also explore repertoire sections from my works, in which I investigate the use of knees technique on the floor, drawing inspiration from different Caucasian and former Soviet cultures. This exploration weaves together the traditions of folklore with my professional background in contemporary dance.

The workshops aim to make folk dance accessible to dancers, connecting them to the meaning and beauty of the folkloric dance world, while creating a direct dialogue with the language of contemporary dance.
